DIY: Finding a Co

The right answer is to find a co-founder with complementary skills. Two heads are always better than one in a startup. The challenge is how to find that elusive perfect-fit partner. Thinking of Going Solo? Yet from my own years of experience in the startup community, here are 10 common steps that have worked for other entrepreneurs: Write a “job description” for that ideal partner. Take a hard look at your own business strengths and weaknesses, and write down what partner skills and experiences would best complement yours. Seek input from seasoned investors and peers. Network to find co-founders just as you network to find investors. Online, it pays to join entrepreneur groups on LinkedIn and Facebook, and interact with people who meet your criteria on Twitter.

Parents sit behind umbrellas bearing ads for their children in Shanghai’s People’s Park. The park has become an open-air marriage market for parents seeking mates for their adult children. On a sweltering Saturday in late August, a steady stream of senior citizens paraded through Shanghai’s People’s Park. Armed with colorful umbrellas and stools, they set up camp along the labyrinth of walkways, rarely looking up from their newspapers or knitting yarn. But these seniors weren’t waiting to take a tai chi class or to make small talk over chess.

They were sweating it out in the midsummer heat with a singular, all-important mission: Over the past decade, the northern corner of this park has become an unofficial, open-air “marriage market” — a popular meeting place for retired parents to find partners for their adult children, who are typically in their 20s and 30s. And the People’s Park marriage market isn’t for the casual love-seeker; it’s an atmosphere of transaction, one that these parents have down to a science.

Parents bring along a single sheet of paper containing vital statistics on their child — age, occupation, education, and property ownership are all musts. Other parents peruse the offerings, and the different parties hash out the specifics of what they are looking for in a future son- or daughter-in-law. If — and only if — the vibe is right, photos and contact information are swapped discreetly, so that the singles can arrange to meet in person on their own time.

Incubation When ideas turn into businesses Bright Pixel has an unusual approach to projects and startups incubation. Our experienced team of engineers and product designers, and our close relationship through the labs with companies in the retail, telco, cyber-security and media spaces, create substantial synergies, which allows us to mitigate two of the most dangerous risks with any early stage venture: Our incubation program supports projects and startups from two different sources of opportunities: Retail, Media, Telco and Cyber-security.

Internal While working in the Labs helping companies solve their business challenges, we get to know their industries extremely well. This process provides us with valuable insights on where the gaps are, what specific opportunities haven’t been explored yet and if there are efficiencies that need to be solved and we can tackle. Whenever we think there’s an opportunity on the table, we hand-pick a good team of promoters with the know-how and the drive to turn the idea into a startup, and we fund the MVP for a maximum of 6 months, helping them during the process with: If the MVP proves to work, BRPX will transform the project into an actual Startup and boost the team to the outside world, together with the help of other co-investors, launching a robust, less risky, validated product into the market.

Wise Matchmaking

The couple started talking to each other on Facebook, which led to them falling in love and dating each other for six years before they finally tied the knot last year in a fabulous wedding that was a union of not just two people who were madly in love, but also of two families. They had the perfect meet-cute, that fairytale first-meeting chemistry and magic that forges a connection of a lifetime. Mathematicians at the University of Bath agree with Iman. While her sister was the lucky one in that sample group, Iman and a growing number of millennials in the UAE are losing at the numbers game that is dating — losing patience with dates and romantic interludes through apps that lead nowhere; losing time, a worry for those women who want to have children; and often losing hope because of the rejections and break-ups that make a major dent to their self-confidence and sense of self-worth.

It is often at this stage that they turn to the expert guidance of professional matchmakers. A growing number of young singles in the UAE are signing up and registering themselves on matchmaking services:

The healthcare industry has struggled to evolve to a value-based system, but tokenization brings new models and ways of thinking about how all aspects of health can be valued.

They matched on Bumble, the dating app where people swipe through potential partners but only women are allowed to initiate a conversation, and started texting. Following an ugly breakup with cofounder Justin Mateen, Wolfe brought a sexual harassment suit against her former colleagues, accusing them of discrimination and stripping her of her cofounder title—claims Tinder called unfounded. A post shared by Fast Company fastcompany on Aug 28, at 5: She sunk into a deep depression and eventually fled Los Angeles for Austin, where she thought she might open a juice bar.

In August of , Andreev and Wolfe met in Greece to discuss partnering on a female-centric dating app. Three years after that first conversation, Bumble has amassed more than 20 million users, and it continues to add more than 50, new ones per day. Now Bumble is betting that its matchmaking technology can do more than foster romantic or personal connections.

The original dating service will be rebranded as Bumble Honey. But this approach also taps into a critical cultural zeitgeist as women push back against the subtle and overt harassment they face in business. As companies like Uber and Google struggle to overcome public reports of discrimination, a rising cohort of women, from venture capitalists to finance and tech entrepreneurs, are determined to refashion what is acceptable and what is possible in the workplace.

Wolfe, who enlisted student ambassadors to make Tinder a hit on college campuses around the country, did the same with Bumble. The concept of Bizz is a relatively easy sell for current users: Set up a discrete profile for networking, all while continuing under the principle that anyone can match, but women alone can initiate contact. Valerie Chiang ] This fall, Bumble is launching a targeted national ad campaign, geared toward women and men of varying ages, that will promote the idea that just one connection can transform your professional life.
