You say you found out on CD35 so you ovulated on a normal 28 day cycle? I’m not sure how you figure that. If you have a 35 day cycle with a normal 14 day LP, you more likely ovulated around CD instead of CD which will put you a week earlier. If you aren’t tracking ovulation somehow opks, temping, etc. If you ovulated a week later than you think you did, then that could account for the baby measuring 6 weeks instead of 7. And if you are actually 6 weeks, not 7, then the hb is just starting at that point so no hb yet is totally fine.
Also on the gestational sac measuring larger, it’s possible. My friend went in for an ultrasound at 11 weeks and was told she was measuring 13 weeks.
Can the scan show the gender of my baby? What is actually done? Scans are usually performed by a doctors, midwives or radiographers who are specially trained in ultrasound, and are known as sonographers. The whole pregnancy will be assessed. The amount of liquor amniotic fluid , the position and appearance of the placenta and a detailed scan of the baby itself.
If there is any suspicion of an ectopic pregnancy then an ultrasound scan will be performed, generally this scan will be done trans-abdominally, however in casses where the womb is tilted back or where there is a high maternal BMI this may be performed trans-vaginally.
Breast tenderness is common during the first trimester, and is more common in women who are pregnant at a young age. Sometimes, timing may also use the fertilization age which is the age of the embryo. Start of gestational age According to American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists , the main methods to calculate gestational age are: Early obstetric ultrasound , comparing the size of an embryo or fetus to that of a reference group of pregnancies of known gestational age such as calculated from last menstrual periods , and using the mean gestational age of other embryos or fetuses of the same size.
If the gestational age as calculated from an early ultrasound is contradictory to the one calculated directly from the last menstrual period, it is still the one from the early ultrasound that is used for the rest of the pregnancy. Estimated date of confinement Due date estimation basically follows two steps: Determination of which time point is to be used as origin for gestational age , as described in section above.
Adding the estimated gestational age at childbirth to the above time point. Childbirth on average occurs at a gestational age of days 40 weeks , which is therefore often used as a standard estimation for individual pregnancies. Naegele’s rule is a standard way of calculating the due date for a pregnancy when assuming a gestational age of days at childbirth. The rule estimates the expected date of delivery EDD by adding a year, subtracting three months, and adding seven days to the origin of gestational age.
Alternatively there are mobile apps , which essentially always give consistent estimations compared to each other and correct for leap year , while pregnancy wheels made of paper can differ from each other by 7 days and generally do not correct for leap year. A study of singleton live births came to the result that childbirth has a standard deviation of 14 days when gestational age is estimated by first trimester ultrasound , and 16 days when estimated directly by last menstrual period.

DIY alternatives to induction If you are desperate to see your baby, or are finding it hard to decline offers of hospital induction, then you may be considering ways to bring on labour yourself. There are plenty of links and suggestions on the UK Midwifery archives page on complementary therapies. It might be worth thinking through exactly you do not want induction in hospital.
If you would not accept medical treatment to bring on labour, what is different about using complementary therapies? Fine, if your intention is just to avoid hospital – but if you are concerned about interfering with your body’s ability to give birth, then DIY methods might not be right for you. If your baby is not ready to be born, in a difficult position , or your body is not ready to go into labour, then DIY induction might bring on a weak pre-labour which peters out. If this happens, and you have already informed your midwives, then you might find yourself under pressure to go into hospital for acceleration of labour, or you might find yourself tired out by the time true labour begins.
DIY labour induction has worked well for many women, and may work for you – but do be aware that it is an intervention, albeit usually a gentler one than hospital induction, and it may well alter the course of your labour. Here are some birth stories where women used DIY induction methods:
