The image can be seen specifically on this page scroll down to the middle , among other items of the online exhibit. Did you notice anything out of place? Or perhaps, out of time? The man with what appears to be very modern sunglasses seems to be wearing a stamped T-shirt with a nice sweater, all the while holding a portable compact camera! Internet people reached to the obvious conclusion: Finally, we have proof! If the story seems straight out of a movie and the photo is in itself a great funny find, the most amusing thing i came up with while looking into this — as an Internet person, on the Internet — was the reply for a skeptical, or perhaps somewhat cynical comment on how spurious it would seem the idea that a time traveler would want to visit the reopening of a bridge in some small town in Canada. But if we are considering time travel, how can we know if in some other timeline something historical happened right there?

Its hosts are special effects experts, artists and electrical engineers who test urban myths using their technical skills and expertise. These so-called ‘myths’ are drawn from history, submissions from the Discovery fansite, youtube, the news, and hearsay. The Mythbusters team have tested, among other things, whether or not pants can explode if treated with particular chemicals and then exposed to sunlight, whether the NASA moon landing may have been faked, why the Hindenburg burned as fast as it did, whether you can pancake a convertable in a head-on collision between two SUVs, and whether it’s faster and conceivable to clean out a cement truck with dynamite [1].

The testing of these myths often involves them building outlandish machines or robots, use of a high-speed camera, or putting materials and objects under strains and stresses for which they were not built. They often end in explosions. Although many of their results are not scientifically viable because of small sample sizes etc.

The show’s production has a certain DIY feel to it; its five hosts are largely unscripted, although seasons 6 and 7 have involved more set-pieces of talking to camera, and various people involved in its production, such as camera crew, researchers and sound engineers, frequently appear on-camera. This adds to the ‘transparent’ feel of the show’s experimental processes and also its ‘enthusiastic amateur’ appeal, which is helped by the enthusiasm, energy, competence and personality quirks of its hosts.

The two main hosts are Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage. They hosted alone for the first season and part of the second; mid-way through the second season, Kari Byron, Tory Belleci, Scottie Chapman and Christine Chamberlain, workers at M5 Jamie’s special effects company , began to take a larger part in the show and appear on camera more frequently, and they soon began tackling myths independantly, forming the ‘build team’.

The latter two left the show in season 3, and were replaced by Grant Imahara. In season 7, when Kari took time off to have a baby, she was replaced by Jessi Combs. Main Characters Adam Savage is probably the most active and notable host of Mythbusters.

Kari Byron Bio, Fact

The Myth – Ancient Chinese armies used armor made from paper that could give the same protection as steel armor. Verdict – Plausible Notes – Kari spoke with antique armor expert Greg Martin, who explained that paper armor was in use as early as BC and was built up from layers that may have been impregnated with resin or shellac. The Build Team tested several formulations for penetration resistance and found that a thick layer of folded paper, with no resin, gave the best results.

The paper did as well as steel in the sword and arrow tests, failing only the blunt-force test, so the team built a full suit of paper armor to match against a period-accurate steel counterpart. Each team member ran one of three timed courses in both armor types to evaluate speed, endurance, and agility; paper outperformed steel in all three. Finally, they attacked the suits with arrows, swords, and two different firearms – an 18th-century flintlock pistol and a 19th-century.

MythBusters Ending After Next Season, Busting the Myth That Anything Lasts Forever

Three Sneaky Science Myths By Bob Grant on April 12, You might be surprised to learn how many things taught as scientific truth are actually science myths. Science myths can be surprisingly sneaky, penetrating popular culture in subtle and surprising ways. Back when the iron content of spinach was calculated, about a century ago, it was reported to be about ten times higher than it actually is, a mistake repeated ad nauseum by subsequent researchers who cited the original study.

But many of us still think spinach is awfully high in iron, all because of an error that led to a cartoon than still influences people today. So, what other fun myths can we be party poopers about today? No Two Snowflakes Are Alike The short answer to this one is, has anyone checked every single snowflake yet?

Hyneman’s ideas tend to be more simplified than his co-host’s, and he has a philosophy of reducing a solution to its most basic form, wherever possible. This difference has led to numerous competitions between the two presenters when testing myths, such as testing the ” Goldfish Memory ” myth and the ” Levitation Machine ” myth.
